Need some mudguards

Cold slippery roads have given way to wet gritty roads! Mudguards are a must, the new tyres are great for grip but also for putting a muddy line up my back and all over my messenger bag containing a very expensive laptop! So we have fitted some SKS mini mudguards, that are really lightweight and should make for a more pleasant ride in the rain. Roll on summer though!

New continental tyres on the MU-XL Sport

New Continental city contacts now fitted, they should make a difference. I don't know why but riding on those slicks in the wet just feels like cycling on an ice rink. There's some more wet icy weather on the way so the conti's are gonna get a test in the next few days!

Dahon MU-XL Sport

It was freezing cold today, and also last night had a crash! It was a bit slippery and those Schwalbe slick tyres don't grip too well on ice, so down i went fortunately landing on the pavement and not in front of the on-coming car! Gonna put some grippier tyres on i think.

Luke rides Brompton to work

The first time I saw a folding bike I though it looked like something you see at the circus with a clown wobbling around on it.

After puncturing my racing bike twice on the way into work I was asked if I wanted to ride a Brompton home. I said yes but wasn’t expecting great things from a folding bike with 16” wheels

My total ride distance was 10 miles to the train. Normally it would take me 24-28 minutes on my lightweight race bike.

It was a dark, wet winter evening and I pumped up the tyres to the max 120 psi pulled the saddle up to the max position, worked out how to unfold it, and set off. The bike was very comfortable compared to what I am used to; riding over ruts and curbs wasn’t a problem. I was riding a Brompton which only had 2 gears but these 2 were perfect to get up hills with a bit of hard work and to get good speed on the flats and downhill.

The bike was surprisingly fast it felt like keeping up a 20mph average wasn’t a problem, which was a huge surprise. I managed the ten miles in 29 minutes and 48 seconds. On the route I overtook 2 racing bikes and several other fixed frame bikes with no one getting passed me despite a decent effort from a disgruntled road biker.

Best of all was being able to fold the bike up and store it in the overhead luggage rack on the train, no more worrying about security or lack of storage space. You can keep it in sight the whole time; you could even take it to the toilet with you if you wanted!

I think that 15 miles in 1 go is the furthest I would like to cycle the Brompton, however the user friendliness and fun out way the slight lack of speed.

Festival of Speed Goodwood (Saturday)

Saturday, and decided to get onto the stand early. Rode a Compact1 from the campsite to the stand and got told off by security 'health & safety mate, you can't ride that here'! What, all the high speed kit on display and I can't ride a bike, the world has gone mad.
Nevermind weather better today, beautiful morning loads of people about should be a cracking day. Great thing about our stand is we can see the big screen from the edge, so we can view all the track action without having to move from the stand!

Festival of Speed (Friday)

Weather forecast for friday wasn't great, rain looked likely, but in the end we got away with just a few spots. The blustery wind though, meant the FoldingBikeHut flag fluttered away happily all day!
Great interest in the bikes from early on (if only we had realised the show opened at 7 A.M.) especially the Matrix which really created a stir. Friday turned out to be the busiest day more visitors as well as sales, and we gave out loads of info and brochures.

Off to the Festival Of Speed

Off to the Festival of Speed tomorrow, its set up day thursday, hope it's stopped raining by then! At least we have a proper marquee, Brookfield Marquees has done us proud as friday doesn't look like its gonna be all that dry!
Wonder if Lewis Hamilton can be persuaded to buy a folding bike? Not such a silly idea, great for getting around the paddock. well if he comes by our stand (233) we will certainly try.
